Lethpora attack: Jammu on boil, clashes erupt, vehicles torched, curfew imposed | KNO

Jammu, February 15 (KNO) : As the situation in Jammu turned volatile this afternoon amid a complete shutdown against the Lethpora attack that left 49 CRPF personnel dead, the district administration Jammu on Friday imposed curfew in Jammu City to thwart any possible protests and ensure the situation remains under control. Amid complete shutdown, massive clashes erupted in Gujjar Nagar area of Jammu amid protesters torching vehicles on the roads. The shutdown call was given by JCCI against the deadly attack on CRPF in Pulwama district. The shutdown was supported by Jammu bar Association as well. Reports said that a large contingent of forces has laid cordon over Gujjar Nagar and is trying to control the situation. According to KNO correspondent, protesters marched towards Gujjar Nagar and torched many vehicles on the road. Sources said the vehicles that were torched were belonging to Kashmiris who are presently at Jammu. Even the vehicles of employees were also not spared by the protesting youth, the employees told KNO. "More than 80 vehicles have been vandalized and eight vehicles have been set ablaze," eyewitnesses told KNO. "The situation is almost out of control," reports said. Officials told KNO that they have ordered imposition of curfew in Gujjar Nagar to control the situation. Later, authorities imposed curfew in Jammu district to maintain law and order situation. Amid rising tensions in Jammu’s Gujjar Nagar, Army in the afternoon carried out flag march to calm down the area. Sources told KNO that a flag march was carried out by Army in Jammu's Gujjar nagar. Meanwhile IGP Jammu has appealed for calm, saying "Don't play into the hands of anti- national elements. They want to disturb our societal harmony. Defeat their designs. Don't get provoked. Maintain calm,” IGP Jammu said. Meanwhile, the mainstream politicians have also appealed for calm in Jammu.(KNO)
